Are cats picky about litter? Absolutely — and some are remarkably so. For a sensitive cat, the smell, texture, depth of the litter, cleanliness, and even where the box is placed can all make or break the deal.
A cat may refuse a litter if it's too dusty, too strongly scented, unpleasant underfoot, clumps poorly, has granules that are too big or too small, or starts smelling bad too quickly. And if your cat picky about litter box behavior is becoming a pattern, it's worth considering that the box itself might be part of the problem, not just what's in it.
